Vita
Ani Ter-Martirosyan's playing is characterized by special emotionality and passion. She is highly praised by critics, especially for her feather-light virtuosity (Neue Zürcher Zeitung) and her poetic, sensitive sound.
As a sought-after concert pianist, Ani Ter-Martirosyan can be heard in concert halls such as the Kölner Philharmonie, the Essener Philharmonie, the WDR 3 television studio, the Robert-Schuman-Saal Düsseldorf, the Beethovenhaus Bonn, the Theater Aachen, the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal, as well as the Teatro Quirino and the Galeria Borghese in Rome, and the Villa Medici Giulini in Milan.
The pianist has won awards at renowned national and international competitions and festivals, such as the International Competition Osimo in Italy, the Concours Ile-de-France, the Sieghard-Rometsch-Wettbewerb in Germany, the Young Artist Platform (Zeist Liedfestival), the International LiedDuo Competition Groningen, the Swiss Engadin Festival, the Klavier-Festival Ruhr in Germany, the Festival Lago Maggiore Musica in Italy, and the Internationaal Lied Festival Zeist in the Netherlands.
In 2025, she won first prize together with cellist Joachim Birman at the Concorso di musica internazionale “Magna Graecia” in Gioiosa Ionica, Italy.
She qualified for and played in the Best of NRW concert series and performed as part of the Schumannfests Düsseldorf. In 2024, she was invited to renowned festivals such as the Beethovenfest Bonn, the Yerevan International Music Festival, and the Oxford International Song Festival.
Ani Ter-Martirosyan has been a scholarship holder of various renowned foundations, including the Wagner Stiftung, the Yehudi-Menuhin-Stiftung, the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung, the Deutschland Stipendium, and the Gulbenkian Stiftung.
Of particular importance in her artistic journey was her appointment as a teacher at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia di Roma, where she had the unique opportunity to play historical instruments such as the harpsichord and fortepiano.
In addition to her work as a soloist, Ani Ter-Martirosyan also performs as a versatile chamber musician and Lied pianist. She appears on stage throughout Germany and internationally with various chamber music partners and singers, with a diverse repertoire ranging from contemporary music to the romantic art song.
In addition to the classical-romantic repertoire, which is one of the pianist's outstanding strengths, Ani Ter-Martirosyan is also dedicated to performing the works of contemporary composers, not least thanks to her membership in the association of young Armenian composers and interpreters.
Ani Ter-Martirosyan is also a representative musician of the Schumann-Gesellschaft Düsseldorf in the context of the composer Clara Schumann-Wieck. Her artistic commitment to the society was honored with a sponsorship of one of the preserved letters of Johannes Brahms.
The native Armenian began taking piano lessons at the age of six, and later also took up the organ. She was accepted into the state conservatory in Eriwan and received her training there from Anna and Sergej Saradjan.
Afterwards, she studied piano at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Köln with Pavel Gililov and Jacob Leuschner. At the Robert Schumann Musikhochschule Düsseldorf, she attended the class of Barbara Szczepanska and graduated with distinction. She concluded her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Köln, specializing in Lied interpretation with Ulrich Eisenlohr and chamber music with Anthony Spiri.
Within the framework of numerous masterclasses, she worked with important musical personalities such as Ferenc Rados, Dmitry Baschkirow, Jacques Rouvier, Claudio Martínez Mehner, and Hisako Kawamura, all of whom had an immense influence on her artistic development.
Since 2021, Ani has held a teaching position at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Köln.
